Please disregard politics. Mr. Michael Moore put a ton of cash into this iconic theater. It has all new seating, sound and concession refreshments. The ceiling looks as though you are sitting under a star lit mountain top on a crystal clear winter night! Ticket prices are always low! Many times, 25 cent specials are offered on weekends for the... More

Great movies, seats and atmosphere! The night sky and is wonderful! The sound system and big screen are wonderful for viewing the movies. Popcorn and drinks are fairly priced and good. Turn off your cell phones or you won't be welcomed back. A must experience in TC. Enjoy!

This is a place that's so much fun you won't be picking up your phone for entertainment! Think hee-haw variety with a Western Michigan feel. Yes, it's a little liberal hipster-ish with post college grads but it's a rocking good time. The news portions are good for cheap pops or laughs and the musical revue is not sophomoric rather talented.... More

Watched one of the all time best Christmas films and all around feel good films It's A Wonderful Life late December 2016. Terrific experience! Each guest was given a little bell to ring during the film. After the film the little bell was traded for a candy cane. Great pricing on tickets, snacks and drinks. Prime location downtown Traverse City... More

This old but restored theatre is fabulous. Great old time feel, but all brought back to life and redone. Seats are so comfy. Concession stand is wonderful, all run by volunteers. Prices can't be beat in Traverse City. Beats the big theaters by far. Michael Moore had a big hand in getting this theatre restored. It's beautiful!

The place has been beautifully restored to its original splendor. The volunteers that work there are also very friendly as is the audience who clap for the volunteers at each showing. The popcorn is fantastic, and the treat is to sit in the balcony and see the stars that decorate the ceiling. Movies are always interesting and they have lots... More

We love this theatre. When Michael Moore rescued it and put it into a non profit for the City it was such a gift to us. Never a bad movie. Beautifully restored, volunteer staff, reasonable prices and concession prices, perfect evening for singles, couples, friends. Why not? Thank you Michael.

Theatres like the State are treasures that have to be preserved. The facility is beautiful and it competes well with modern facilities. We saw a movie one day after the death of Debbie Reynolds and were amazed that someone had put together a pre-show tribute with musical clips. It has a good mix of new and old movies. We were...
