Visiting Périgord in December there are not so many places open to the occasional visitor but we were very pleased to visit Bourdeilles on a bright sunny afternoon. The staff in the reception area and shop were very helpful and we enjoyed our visit. It's two castles in one : the austere medieval octagonal keep ( quite a climb up... More

We recently visited the Chateau de Boudeilles whilst visiting the area. Bordeilles is a small town not far from Brantome and the Chateau towers above the surrounding landscape. We were the only visitors at the time and we didn't opt to get the audio guide which I think is a shame as there is only limited information around the site... More

We were fortunate to be given complimentary passes for the chateaux, otherwise we might not have looked for Bourdeilles. That would have been our loss. The mini tablet guide in English (other languages are available) is a must, as there is just so much information, in fact we didn't have time for all the "for extra information" options on there.... We thoroughly enjoyed touring the chateau after a morning at the Brantome markets. It is well maintained and laid out and the audio guide was easy to use and informative. The views from the top of the dungeon were spectacular as was the scenery surrounding the nearby river.

Great place to visit if you're in the area. The older castle with the tower dominates the local skyline and has a lot of steps up to the top (and is probably not for some people), however once at the top the views are spectacular. The second castle is set up like a museum/display and is interesting to walk around.... More

Château de Bourdeilles is the central feature of the town of Bourdeilles beside the river Dronne. The attraction consists of two castles from different periods which overlook the river. We arrived by car and found ample car parking space at the entrance of the village. This car park was an unsealed car park (on the left as you enter the... More

Views and the village location stunning The chateau was nice, but not memorable. No English signs. There was people dotted around to ask questions too, but not always approachable Reasonable price

Great location in a pretty village overlooking the Dronne. The staff are very helpful and the electronic guide - commentary, map, pictures, English is English not American - is excellent and highly recommended. The castle is good with great views from the top of the tower, the chateau an interesting contrast, sad the final wing never got built. The furniture... More

Situated in the pretty village of Bourdeilles bordering the River Dronne, this imposing complex consists of a Medieval part and a Renaissance part. Both are open to the public. The buildings are well maintained. The Renaissance part is furnished and decorated in the style of the period. There is a lovely view from the top of the medieval tower over... More

This is a twofer. The donjon from a medieval chateau is very intact. It is small but one gets a great idea of the design philosophy. On the castle site, meters away from the donjon is a renaissance chateau. It isn't large but is very typical as well. There is a great collection of renaissance furniture inside. The audio guide...
