This is part of a Viking excursion tour (ask for Cindy; she's exceptional) to the site of the Colmar Pocket battle in January 1945. The museum is small and in a basement, but shows the humanity of the combatants exceptionally well. It's made up of equipment, uniforms, and detritus of war in that area, including the bent engine and curled-up... More

I must admit that I know little of the Second World War in this part of France. This is the region where all of France was finally liberated after heavy fighting with the Germans. Audie Murphy won his Medal of Honor just below this village during a vicious winter battle against a superior German force. This little museum captures the... More

This tiny museum is packed with military paraphernalia from the second world war. It only has two rooms, but an amazing collection. You have to see this if you are interested in military history.

We took a tour which included the museum in Turckheim, the actual battlefield of Audie Murphy’s one man stand, and the American Memorial Sigolsheim. The museum did not appear to get a lot of visitors and the only visitors were our tour group. We parked outside the old city wall and walked in. The museum is in the basement. Many... More

Many people may have heard of Audie Murphy. Many will not have visited where he made his famous one man (private war) stand. When you come to this museum very few people are here. That doesn't make it less important. The fact that all the artefacts are from this area and that so few come here makes it special. This... More

This is a small museum of two rooms, containing a lot of memorabilia mostly packed into glass cases. I enjoyed the memorial outside the museum to French/American military collaboration the most. I wish there had been more information specifically about Turckheim. While it costs a few Euros for a tiny museum, they gave out one drink Free passes to the... More

The Colmar Pocket is a throwback to museums of the 50's and 60's with a whole lot of military memorabilia crammed into display cases and large-scale dioramas. With that said, if you know your WWII history and are up on militaria and ordnance, there are some real gems/oddities sprinkled throughout the museum (e.g., strange variants on German helmets, glass landmines,... Not easy to find and to park. The entrance is not well organized, and the payment point is inside one of the two rooms. We have arrived about 25 minutes before closing and we went in to one of the rooms seeing nobody. After 5 minutes a lady arrived telling us that we "have to pay" (we knew that and... More

Didn't know a lot about the history of the area in WW2. This museum was a good way to spend a couple of hours learning. The audio tour was perfect.
