Five star review is for volcano boarding - we had a great day with Santa who is an excellent guide. He gave us loads of good info about the local area and about the activity itself and how to safely manoeuvre the board. Couldn’t fault it really - got four free drinks (2 beers and 2 rum and coke) after the tour plus the free vest top which is cool. Santa got hundreds of great photos of our tour which were quickly uploaded to Facebook. You can pay a local guy to carry the board up for you if you like which we opted to do and were happy we did - the hike itself is pretty easy but we enjoyed it much more without worrying about carrying the board up. We were initially scared about the boarding and took it pretty steady but it was actually fine and we felt 100% safe once on the board. …

Very touristy activity. You are encouraged to pay extra money to have some locals bring the board up the volcano for you, which I found pretty sad. I really liked the comments from the guide, with some facts about Cerro Negro. In my group a guy fell from his board and hit his head, and now has now a scar. It's not an insured activity and that you don't wear helmets when descending at >50kph …

Got one of the AC rooms, was great, Leon is pretty warm so would recommend spending the extra to get the AC. Is a good party hostel, usually something happening every night
