The beach and surrounding areas are visually stunning. Be careful of the waves, they can be a bit much. Many places to eat, and on the far end eat with the locals for a very good price. Just ask around the stick-built beach set-up and ask. The other end is more nightclubs and loud music and touristy crowds as well... More

World-class beach, very sparsely populated (it is hot in Las Penitas!) with plenty of small hostels, inns and casitas, as well as restaurants and bars, equally tranquil, and thus NOT the nightclub-style atmosphere. Fishing village and thus a good number of fish restaurants. Great take-off place for a day-long boat-ride into the mangrove creeks. And the "chicken bus" is an... More

The beach was so dirty that we lost all interest in going into the water. Leftovers from parties and pick nicks from people careless about nature and/or the experience of fellow or following visitors. Having scrapped our bathing plans we decided to get a cold drink and just enjoy the sundown. And that was really nice. But otherwise this beach... More

Came here from Leon on the back of a big open-air (but covered) truck that runs regularly between Big Foot Hostel in Leon and Playa Las Penitas. It's the most fun and economical way to get to the Hostel on the beach. There are very affordable rooms, good food and drinks and it's right on the beach. Want to go... More

We stayed here two nights & 1 full day of activities. In summary: - beach ok, grey sand and long beach front. Many private hotels with nice pools - surfing ok, short break so not great for learners - mangrove your = good. Do the afternoon one to visit the eco project that releases any turtles at 5:30pm each evening.... More

Lots of great bars and restaurants and a very tranquil atmosphere with beautiful beaches! Young people were splashing in the ocean and a few surfers passed as well as a few people on horseback. Lots of beautiful shells and visitors from all walks of life and all ages. A beautiful spot to relax for a day or week.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed some beers at the Beach Hotel and Bar as a day trip from Leon. Was a very relaxing experience and the sunset was beautiful. Busses are a convenient way to get there from Leon.

This waterside town and beach is a great location to enjoy the water, see some flora and fauna and get a taste of the local culture. We took a boat trip through the mangrove, stopping at the turtle sanctuary which you can play in the waves, see the baby turtles and relax on the beach. Bring your bathing suit as... More

A long beach strip with quite a few hostels where you can hang out for a day or stay for a longer period. Personally I dont like the beach that much because the sand can get very hot during the day, the surf isnt that special and there are a lot of stingrays at the beach, if you are unlucky... More
