Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 15 - October 1, 2017. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

We took the Trolley tour plus which included a stop at Windmill Island Gardens. I've been to The Netherlands so I can vouch for the fact that it really looks like Holland. It was well kept and so pretty.

We went the weekend following the 2017 Tulip Festival. Most of the tulips were already gone. The staff was extremely friendly and made all of the guests feel welcome. My friend is 63 and I am 53. We both get around fairly well, but cannot walk all day at a large amusement park. This was perfect for us. There was... More

We visited WMI last week right after their Tulip Time Festival. There were still plenty of pretty tulips left. Our guide was beautifully attired and very well informed as to the history of their famous windmill. We met the miller and visited their shops. In all, a most enjoyable couple of hours.

We went on the Tuesday after the Tulip Festival started the previous weekend. It was still really busy, with many tourist buses and international visitors, but it wasnt overwhelming. Parking was close to the ticket counter up front (like an amusement park) and the main building is right behind that. The bathrooms were clean and they had an introductory video... More

Great please to visit. The tulips were so pretty. The windmill is still working as they make flour. I ended up buying lots of tulips bulb. I am planing to go back again next year.

Well, we decided to go 2 days after the close of the tulip festival. We went to the Windmill Island. They were still charging $9.00 to see the large windmill but there were only about 20-30% of the flowers still with pedals. The woman in the ticket booth told us we could stay on the right side which has the... More

Great place, lots to see. Love the varied gardens and love that you will follow up with community gardens after the tulips are done.
