I read some of the other reviews & some people just missed the whole point of a "catch & release" lake. The reason someone can catch 35 bass is because this lake is protected. Yes, if you want a fish dinner, you'll be disappointed, but, if you want to commune with nature & enjoy catching big bass, bigger pike, &... More

This is a great property. It has stunning scenery to explore through a variety of trails that take your through forests, meadow openings, and wetlands. Good for birdwatching. Saw a pair of loons with chicks and a pileated woodpecker among other things. Only complaint is that there is no trail map indicating difficulty or length of segments. Instructions for self-pay... So boring!!! catch and release fishing is for people who don't know how to fish. Over a mile hike in for a catch and release pond REALLY ? When I went, I meet some of the weirdest people, they like fishing there because the have no skills. This young dude was like I caught 35 bass today.... WOW you caught... More

We hiked Wakely for the first time, after skiing it many years before. It's a wonderful place in either mode.

This place is not so good, first you have to pay to park. Yea $5.00 per day to park at a federal park, the you have to walk about a mile before you get to the lake, I was not impressed.

A friend and I were searching for a place to swim over this Labor Day weekend while driving back from the U.P. We found Wakeley Lake by chance using google maps. It was an unforgettable experience and I will surely be returning. We bought inflatable tubes from the party store down the street and floated on the lake all day.... More

This state park is easy to find off Highway 72. Rarely busy, it's a beautiful natural lake and surrounding hiking trails. You have to portage in your canoe or kayak as there are no motorized vehicles allowed. It's only about a 1/4 mile and trail to lake is wide and clear. There is a toilet at end of access trail.... This was a very nice hike, very scenic. It was really hot out so we took a deep in the clear water. The hike was not strenuous and went on for quite a way along the lake and into the forest. We didn't visit the campsites but would like to check them out. The lake looks good for fishing.

I have been camping here for years, and it never disappoints. Great fishing in the lake for smallies and trout. Bring a kayak or a big tube as much of the fishing is done on the west side, and the "launch" is on the east side, just a nice 1/4+ mile hike from the ample parking. There are a few... More
