Malzards Pub - awesome pub and people!
Make time to stop in Stoneyford, at Malzards Pub! Fred describes himself as the caretaker of the pub, not an owner, which is an indication of his pride, intention and spirit. Fred’s legacy reaches back multiple generations and he has created an atmosphere of singing, involvement, conviviality and fun!

    A Warm Irish Pub Welcome!
We had the opportunity to be introduced to pub life and meet the owner Fred Malzard whose family has owned this pub for four generations. What a cool place. Got introduced to the sport of Hurling and I’m an immediate fan! Beer was cold and the whiskey didn’t disappoint, throw in two terrific musicians that were fantastic! A must stop, support local you can’t go wrong.

Truly an amazing experience! Small town friendly confines bar with everyone feeling welcome. The history and atmosphere are impeccable We arrived with a group and they had Karoke and we sang and played along with the locals. Wonderful evening finding a large treasure in a small treasure chest!! We even learned how to Hurl. So much fun

    This pub has it all
From the moment we walked in we were treated like a long lost friend by the proprietor, Fred. After introducing us to the sport of hurling, he took us outside to practice a bit with the paddles and balls. Once we were done and convinced it was a much harder game than he explained, we went inside for drinks and complimentary chips (yum). Then the music started and it all went crazy! Singing, dancing, playing musical instruments (metal teapots even work!) and generally having a ball at a small town pub. Best night of our tour.

The best place for a taste of the full Irish pub experience
We visited today as a group of 41 people on the last day before home of a taste of Southern Ireland tour. We were not disappointed. Communication before our visit with Mr Fred Malzard himself, checking our dietary requirements and on the day of visiting, was faultless. A space was reserved for our coach outside the pub and we stepped off and straight into the bar, experiencing the full Irish pub experience as soon as we entered. Instantly offered a Guinness or other beverage and some of us opted to pour it ourselves, to the delight of some of the men and women in our group. This was followed by a lovely chat from our host about the history of the pub (which got our host a tad emotional ahhh ) and about the history and rules of hurling. This was followed by a fabulous lunch prepared locally and then we were entertained by Adrian and Jim for a sing along to some typical Irish and 50s songs and a few tales of days gone by. We were given “instruments” to play which included Calieghd drums, accordion, rattles , spoons and teapots!!! This got even our quietest of guests up singing and getting involved. When we said our thank you’s and goodbyes we were each given a gift from the host. ( I won’t say what but go and check it out yourselves). There is a great range of local spirits too that you can purchase to take home. When we returned to our coach everyone said they wanted to do it again so we contacted our Robert’s Travel Group office who have made a booking again for later in the year. An excellent end to our trip before our journey home. Thank you Mr Malzard for your passion and hospitality. All the best from Carole and Liam (Tour Manager and Tour Driver )

    The old triangle
We got to experience the craic and excitement that is Malzards Pub while touring the Beautiful countryside of Ireland with Brendan Vacations. Our tour guide, Neil O'Mahony and coach driver, Pat Quale wanted us to experience a true Irish Pub. We enjoyed the hospitality with song and dance, and a few pints. A truly wonderful experience that we will never forget. Thank you Fred and staff...Slainte

    Tripping around the Emerald Isle
We called into Malzards Pub on our Trafalgar tour. What a fabulous experience of a traditional family owned Irish pub with great Irish music. Fred, the proprietor welcomed us and gave us a run through of the National game of Hurling. He was passionate about supporting the small family owned businesses in the villages. So if you are on a tour or self driving around the Emerald Isle, call in at Malzards and have a pint of Kilkenny ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️our tour guide Alan gave us a couple of songs too

Family pub serves up a good time!
An amazing afternoon with our tour group at Malzards Pub! Fred introduced his passion of hurling, the sport of Ireland. Pub has been owned through 5 generations of his family. An amazing story of community support and local business. He taught us how to pour a Guinness and we sang and danced to the music of 2 local singers. Definitely a must visit if you are in Ireland!

We had a great time from the Hurling experience to the Tin pot and tea pot band! Lots of laughs and good fun. We even got to try our hand at pouring a Guiness!

The most fun traditional pub in Ireland.

What a brilliant experience at this homely and cost pub. The drinks, the music and the hurling was a lifetime experience.

Brilliant fun all around

We had such an amazing time at Malzards Pub! It was an optional experience offered during our Trafalgar Tour, and we almost passed it up… I am sooo glad we went! Fred, the owner was incredibly welcoming and made the entire evening amazing! Not only did we get to play hurling, but there was Irish music and Fred got half our group playing instruments (including spoons and a broom!) along with the musicians. It was like our own jug band and the whole group bonded as we were able to let loose, playing, singing, and learning to pour our own Guinness! It was such a fun and memorable evening, definitely a highlight of our trip! Thank you to Betty for bringing us to meet Fred Malzard 🤗

I don’t think I can put into words how beautiful this experience was. Going into a bar and feeling so welcomed and being treated like family was amazing. If you do anything while visiting the Kilkenny area, spend time at this bar and do the hurling experience. I promise it will be a core memory. Thank you Fred and family ☺️

I went here as part of a tour group and had the best time! Months later, my husband and I still view this as one of the highlights of our Ireland tour. The owner was so fun and lively and the band was excellent! This felt like a genuine Irish experience of a good time out at the pub with friends! I’m so grateful that the owner has this experience for tour groups!

What an amazing family owned pub this is. A great time was had by the entire Trafalgar busload of people. Fred, the owner had everyone up and mingling with everyone else, had people pulling their own drafts behind the bar and we experienced the Irish sport of Hurling! Great musical entertainment was provided. Fred got everyone into the act of contributing whether it was playing the teapot (yes you read that correctly) or the spoons. Anyone who wanted to lend their voice or play the guitar was more than welcome. It's an experience not to be missed!
