Downtown is definitely not a recommendable place for sightseeing. One can see empty buildings and rather scary corners. On the other side there is a lot of renovation work going on. Crossing fingers for Detroit in their efforts to change the "picture" of the heart of their city. The promenade along the river is definitely a refreshing an nice sight... More

My family and I were staying at the Marriott which is located in the heart of the Detroit riverfront. There are many great attractions from the casinos, to Greektown, to the restaurants from every corner of the world. We had a great time.

Four of us visited Detroit in preparation for the Lions/Packers game on New Years Day. We decided to celebrate New Years Eve downtown at the D Drop. Our hotel we stayed in was called the Viking, which I picked because you could walk from there. We did not walk, but others from our hotel did walk. According to them, it... More

Hubby and I and another couple stayed in downtown Detroit overnight as part of our attending the Lions-Packers game at Ford Field. There was little time for sightseeing this time round as we arrived mid afternoon on New Years Day and attended a Sunday evening game. We left the next morning after breakfast to take our friends to the airport.... More

Told by many to not visit, bypass , dangerous etc, etc. What a load of bunkum ! Saw the same homeless, distressed as in all major cities and as long as you are street smart it can be a great little town to view. Found the Elevated Line to be a fabulous and Cheap way to tour the City !!... More

I'm not from Detroit, actually Canadian - however, we spend a lot of time in Detroit for events (sports/concerts/evenings out), and absolutely love this city and where it is going. Have things changed in the last 5-10 years? Absolutely. There are still people afraid to venture downtown, based on a reputation from years ago (rightly deserved, however), but this isn't... More

Downtown Detroit is starting to look really good. It now has the real feel of being downtown with shops and lots of good places to eat.

By the sounds of it, this city has come leaps and bounds. Everyone said it was unsafe and rubbish, I didn't see any degenerates over the four days I was in the downtown area. Only a couple of beggars too!! It has had a lot of money put into it recently I would say. The locals still ask why on... More

Downtown Detroit has come a long way in a relatively short period of time. The area from the Riverfront north to Midtown is humming with activity, with many new residents, bars and hotels. This is a fun and vibrant place.
