Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the Institute showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Don't miss the General Motors Center for African American Art, a part of the DIA which showcases 400 pieces, in various media, by African American artists.

Loved the Detroit Institute of Arts. Great selection of artworks by masters. Interesting selection of contemporary works, Hudson River School artists, Impressionists and Renaissance giants. A collection of gems.

I've actually gone to the DIA many times when it was not free for local residents. It is a first rate art museum in my humble opinion (I've been to quite a few). I try to take advantage of the free tours if my timing...More
