Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the Institute showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Don't miss the General Motors Center for African American Art, a part of the DIA which showcases 400 pieces, in various media, by African American artists.

I’ve visited many art museums and DIA is one of the largest. The variety of art is a lot to take in, in less than 3-4 hours. The best part for me was the room on the second floor with the industrial revolution murals. The...More

Quite an impressive and wide-ranging collection. The space itself is like a tiered wedding cake of art and artifacts, and a wonderful destination spot. For a dollar and change, we hopped the Q tram near the stadium and it dropped us at the front steps.

Such a good experience. It made our whole visit to Detroit worthwhile. This museum is full of incredibly stimulating exhibits, and would certainly have been worth more than one visit if we had been staying longer. As an added bonus, the restaurant was great.

The Inn on Ferry Street is a bed and breakfast one block from the DIA. Other than that, you will have to stay 2-3 miles away, either at the St.Regis on West Grand Blvd. or in one of the hotels downtown. The MotorCity... More
