A Small Gem of a Museum

They always have excellent shows, usually curated by William's College's excellent faculty and students. It's free and definitely worth going to.

Whose idea was it to arrange an presentation of art works by the date of acquisition? The result is a hodgepodge. The interior of the building is imaginative, and there are some interesting works. Lex and Love by Meleko Mokgosi of Botswana is worth the visit; Autobiography by Robert Rauschenberg is not.

With the Clark almost next door, and Mass MOCA not too far away, it is easy to overlook this fine small museum. They host dazzlingly excellent exhibitions...the Prendergast in Venice a couple of years ago was simply outstanding....and they have an interesting permanent collection as well.

Williamstown is super and worth traveling to for art. You have MassMoca, the Clark, and this Williams College Museum. Their permanent collection is great.

This museum is located in the art building at Williams College. Its collection includes some interesting items, but the display of the items is very confusing. Their special exhibit was a collection of all the items obtained during the 1960s. Everything was together without a theme - phaoronic art next to European paintings next to silver next to etc etc... This is a perfect museum for those looking to see everything in one visit. Many different types of art on display, some very contemporary and others traditional. Very quiet and peaceful allowing for immersion into the specific exhibits one is interested in. Well worth a visit.

We were pleasantly surprised to find parking easy and access free, but that was just the start. The well-placed art, and incredible artifacts on display stunned us..historically and artistically significant artwork and artifacts surprised us around almost every corner. Giant gypsum carvings from 800 BC, an original Frederick Remington and an interesting collection of paintings and special exhibits worth your... More

Most of the art is what you would consider modern. Downstairs is a revolving exhibition with the more traditional collection upstairs. This was our second visit in five years so we thought we would give it another try. Most of it was lost on us. Did not care for most of what was displayed and especially what was downstairs. The... Hello JEM02882, Thank you for visiting WCMA. As always, art is subjective, and our varied exhibitions can appeal to many different tastes. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed "The Anxiety of Influence: European and American Art, 1689–1913." We hope some of our future exhibitions can also appeal to your "traditional" tastes. More

Mostly modern art, I found this to be quaint. However, there are some classics like 2 original Remingtons! Nice way to spend an afternoon on a rainy day!
