The Polly Hill Arboretum is a public garden. The grounds are open to visitors daily, sunrise to sunset, year-round. A staffed Visitor Center with garden info, merchandise and plant sales is open Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend, 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tours are available daily at 10:00 a.m. in July and August, and by advanced reservation otherwise. Tours are free with $5 admission.

The Polly Hill Arboretum, a Martha’s Vineyard landmark, was developed by the legendary horticulturist, Polly Hill (1907-2007). Polly began her collection of unique plants in 1958. Established in 1998 as a not-for-profit institution the Arboretum is devoted to the cultivation and study of plants and the preservation of the character and magic of this tranquil landscape. There are 25 acres of cultivated landscape open to visitors and the remaining 47 are preserved woodlands. In 2015 the Polly Hill Arboretum was designated as a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places.

Rare trees and shrubs from around the world are set among stone walls, meadows, and fields, including Polly’s famous North Tisbury azaleas, the national stewartia collection, camellias, hollies, rhododendrons, crabapples, conifers, magnolias, and many more. The kousa dogwood allee, perennial border, monkey puzzle tree, and the Julian Hill magnolia are favorites with visitors.

If you are planning to take a trip to Polly Hill and are utilizing the Vine Transit Authority, you've got a ride ahead of you, if you are coming in from Oak Bluffs or Edgartown. The best bus to take is the 4, and if you plan your trip to the Arboretum for lunch time you can start early at... More

I love this place and visit every time I come to MV. I have bought multiple plants and enjoyed walking the grounds. Nice library of gardening books for sale and a really great plant sale in the spring/fall.

Nice to walk around on your own and enjoy the space. We got there around 4 or 5pm and nobody seemed to be around except for us. I think they're working on expanding the area to make it larger, but it's actual got quite a good amount of area already. Careful for ticks!

Built out over the years from Polly Hill's garden, the site is beautiful in all seasons. Fall is as beautiful as any other time. the environment is basically free roaming but guidance is available in the Visitor Center. Special trails and challenges for young people. Great experience.

I am a bit late in getting this posted but would feel remiss if I were not to acknowledge the wonderful time my family and I had at Polly Hill Arboretum's Daffodil Days celebration this past April. The grounds were beautiful, the staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the daffodil displays extensive and gorgeous. There were even crafts for the kids!... More

Visited here on many local recommendations - well worth it. Away from the maddening August crowds, you can commune with nature. A special plus is the parking - a rare commodity on the island. This little gem is well known to the locals and I hope many island visitors will put it on their list. Night time talks on many... More

A walk through gardens you see unique chairs, out door fireplaces as well as trees , bushes and plants. A quiet retreat if you had enough traffic and too much beach.

This is a smallish arboretum just off State Road. The plants are both local and with some from around the world, including the famous monkey puzzle trees. I would give it more stars, but it is a small place. Certainly if you are in West Tisbury and would like to go for a short walk among well cared for plants,... More

The paths wander through the woods and fields, and the lack of pretension is palpable. The tour was nice, but being on one's own, dawdling through the trees, was the best. Very helpful in the information area and charming, helpful staff. You can see why this is a favorite with so many.
