A great day for family learning outside which allows you to experience Western Massachusetts during the 1800s. Costumed staff help you learn about their lives in Sturbridge, MA as farmers, blacksmiths, lawyers, cobblers, etc. My husband and I are members, and never get bored of visiting. My favorite place to visit is the farm. There is always something growing there-... More

There was a time OSV represented 1789-1840. There was no Christmas. Now times have literally changed so that OSV can cash in on Christmas. This real New Englander and neighbor objects!!

Indeed, the holiday traditions that so many cherish today were once unknown to New Englanders. Most early 19th-century rural New Englanders did not celebrate Christmas. A few people in the cities were beginning to observe the holiday and some early forms of Christmas traditions were beginning to take hold, however. The celebration of Christmas in America rapidly started to expand... More

This is a great, comfortable walking self-tour of a working 1830's village. Those working in the homes, shops and mills have always been friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. Each visit is a little different based on the time of year and people working.

Two gals took a road trip the week after Christmas and made OSV one of the stops along the way. The day was cold and the entire place was mud. I thought there would be lots of costumed people around like in Williamsburg, but there were only a few. Christmas decorations were minimal (if any?) There was little to read,... More

I love taking a step back in history so I thoroughly enjoyed this. There was snow on the ground (we lucked out that it wasn't freezing cold) and we bought hot apple cider. There were Christmas carolers and several people in character. You were able to go into each building and get a real feel for what it was like... More

We have been to Sturbridge many times over the year including trips with our children and grandchildren. This is the first time we went for their Christmas program. It was fantastic. The main houses were all open and decorated for the holidays. Samples of things like feasted chestnuts, candy, cookies, and other old time treats were given out. They offered... More

Once a year the Village is open on weekend evenings between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The buildings around the town green are open and are all illuminated by candles. It's very beautiful and there are different activities and performances taking place throughout the village.
