We stopped in to see the Flying Horses Carousel while in Oak Bluffs this summer. It's America's oldest operating platform carousels and is a national landmark. It started its life as a Coney Island, NY amusement after its construction in 1876. It was moved to Oak Bluffs in 1884. (I can't fathom how these things last so long, but I'm... More

Flying Horses is the oldest carousel in continuous operation in the US. As such it's on the National Register of Historic Places. My family visits every year. My kids love trying to get the brass ring (which earns you a free ride). There's not much too it, but the carousel definitely has the feel of a well-loved bit of history.... More

This is just a cool experience whether your an adult or a child. This is the oldest carousel in the country, and a steal for $3 a ride. This is probably the cheapest thing you can do while creating memories on this island. For $5, you can buy yourself a ride, and give your remaining $2 to saving the carousel.... More

Take the chance to visit one of the oldest carousels in the country. Beautifully restored and you have the chance at a brass ring as well! Great fun at a reasonable price.

Nice little fun spot for the kids. Adults can ride too, but it's really the kids who have the most fun. This is a true antique, where the riders can catch the rings!

The carousel is nice, old, and historic, but the horses don't go up and down and don't begin to fly!

Tiny, tiny carousel but very cute and well worth the visit. The best part is trying to grab the rings, whoever gets a bronze ring is given a free ride. My son sat on the inside of the carousel and was able to grab a ring almost every time. He was disappointed to know that he couldn't keep the rings... More

In a world of Disney and video entertainment this little gem may seem boring. I would recommend this to every age group. Even if your kids are not attracted to this, make them take a ride. Some day they will thank you. Rides like this are what started all the more thrilling entertainment of today. Very few pieces like this... More
