Great house

This is a fascinating house to visit with spectacular views. It has a rich history and unique architecture. A great place to go on a not so great beach day.

There are so many fascinating historical homes in New England, but not many as stunning inside and out as this one. If you're visiting Gloucester you should fit this museum into your schedule. It's right on the harbor and the views are breath-taking. The home is full of history and they give a great tour.

This was a last minute stop. Boy am I glad we did it. What a beautiful home. Mr. Sleeper collected many interesting things over the years. He loves his George Washington and colored glass that's for sure. The grounds are amazingly kept. They are military friendly and provide discounts of up to 50%. Loved the details in this home. You... Odd sort of a place in a beautiful location. Good for killing some time, I suppose. Locals get to visit free on certain days.

This house has so much history and beautiful views of the ocean and the town of Gloucester. The rooms are furnished with period items. The tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Take the tour if you can. Leave lots of time to view the interior of the house as well as the spectacular grounds. Sit and enjoy the views of... More

This was totally unexpected; the room with authentic Chinese hand-painted wallpaper and the dining room with the windows that lowered via pulleys so you could sit looking out over the inner harbor. What a truly creative and whimsical mind!

All of us made increasingly louder oohs and aahs from one fantasy room to the other. It's unbelievable that people actually lived there . It is more appropriate a movie set for a Harry potter or hobbit. There is so much to look at that you are overwhelmed in a good way. He was a neat hoarder with a strong... More

We could have stayed in this house all day. Every single room was just jaw dropping. My favorite room was the bedroom that had a porch attached that made you feel like you were on a ship looking out over the water. It is a house you have to see to believe. Don't miss it. The only downside is the... More

Even if you've seen a lot of historic homes, you've probably never seen anything quite like Beauport. Henry Davis Sleeper was one of America's first interior designers, and his house reflects his passion and genius for collecting and displaying his finds, from original paneling, carvings, and decorative windows taken from early American homes slated for demolition, to glass, pottery, folk... We went as part of a special after hours 'nooks and crannies' tour which allowed us to see some parts of the house you don't normally see, but I would suggest going to the regular tour at any time as there is still SO much to take in. This is Henry Davis Sleeper's personal house, he was an avant garde... More
