This is a very beautiful old city hall. The architecture is impressive. It is also very well maintained. It is well worth walking through.

A gift to Fairhaven from Henry Huddeston Rogers, the retired CEO of Standard Oil in the 1880s, this is a gem of the architecture of the 1890s. At the same time, be sure to see the nearby Millicent Library, the Fairhaven High School and the 'almost cathedral' built at the same time, all gifts from Rogers as well.

Another of Fairhaven's architectural gems, the town hall is well worth a visit. Be sure to see the second-floor auditorium, with its ornate ceiling and stained glass windows. There are sometimes concerts, plays, lectures, and other events, so check the Fairhaven Tourism site for schedules. (It's handicapped accessible, with an elevator at a side entrance.)

What an example of early American architecture. It is in an area with many other amazing buildings and homes.

Glad we took the time to see this building. It is magnificent. While there take a look at the smaller building across the street to the right of City Hall. It is also charming.

If you are visiting Fairhaven, New Bedford, or other areas on Buzzard's Bay, make time for the morning walking tour of Fairhaven with Christopher Richard, the Director of Tourism. Dressed in late 19th century garb, he gives a delightful history of the glory days of Fairhaven and the beautiful Town Hall and library, donated by oil baron Henry Huddleston Rogers.... More
