Washington County is blessed to have this Museum!!

This is a hidden gem! The basement has a genealogical research area. The rest of
the house (and garden!) are of high museum quality. The exhibits are SO interesting.
All local/area items on display. We were taken on a short tour the last time. I want to go back and take more time to view everything. Worth a visit!!!!!

Really enjoyed this site. Having said that we arrived when it was said to be open and everything was locked up, we knocked rang the bell but to no avail. We were going to come back at a later time when I noticed there was a basement entrance to the Washington County Historic Association. The Miller House and door with hours beside it were upstairs. Anyway we went to the locked downstairs door and rang the bell just as we had the up stairs door but this time someone came. It was not someone who actually worked there though. She did go and find someone who worked there and apparently most of the staff were out of the office that day. They were open even though everything was locked tight. She scrambled and ran ahead of us upstairs to turn on the lights and showed us how to take the cell phone audio tour. She couldn't figure out how to get into the computer to charge us and said she would work on that while we were on the tour. She was very nice just not put together. The house, house history, history of early Hagerstown Families living in the house and Hagerstown and Washington County History were all very interesting. There are definitely things that could use improvement like several areas on the tour where they are referring to things you should see that are not there. The very 21st century kitchen and not being to be able to see the porches or yard and garden area ect. It would also have been nice to have someone who could answer questions. Over all I really enjoyed it and am glad it is there I just hope that they continue to make it more period correct and have it open during its stated open hours with less confusion. It looks like they offer a lot of fun other events like history and wine tasting, crafts and learning events movie night ect....

Museum and Constitution week
Sep 2018 • Family
A fantastic local history museum that tells the story of the Miller family and the local Hagerstown area. The docents are knowledgeable and fun. Every weekend they have an activity for children. My grandkids absolutely loved making and decorating cornhusk dolls. Everything from the soaked cornhusks to the beading embellishments was provided. We went during Constitution week and met members of the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter who presented a lot of great information on our National Constitution... they even had a game of Constitution Jeopardy that we got to play! The house and it's contents were well taken care of. We will return... in December the kids will get to learn how to make Christmas Crackers!

There are many different and interesting items on display in this charming museum. It is rarely crowded so you can take you time exploring this beautiful old home and the treasures it contains. I've been there a few times and always discover something new - old pottery, dolls, furniture, portraits, and much more. Hagerstown has a rich history and this museum does a great job exhibiting it.

Disappointed because it was unavailable to visit.

The woman at the visitors center directed us to The Miller House. A woman downstairs in the records department said it was Tuesday and they were not open. They were to open at 1:00 the next day. We returned Wednesday, but the air conditioner had broken. The building was closed due to repair and we never had the opportunity to tour through.
