We enjoy hiking in places with opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife in natural settings. This was our first visit to SERC and it did not disappoint! We saw a large diversity of woodland bird species, particularly woodpeckers of several varieties, and many butterflies. What a great find!

Interesting to see untouched environment. Also good to see scientists working to protect the Chesapeake's natural beauty. Might come back when autumn leaves are at peak.

The eco visitor center was clearly aimed at school kids. Fun stuff for them but not very stimulating for older citizen scientists.

Just a quick visit on a Friday afternoon. I was a little concerned by all the road construction leading into the center. It will be a great improvement once it is completed. But for now, prepare for rough roads. Once I found the Reed Visitor Center and checked in, I explored a trail that took me to a replica of... More

We went on a Sunday and had the place pretty much to ourselves. The visitor's center was closed but the parking lot and trails were all open. Excellent physical activity for an hour or two.

I have been at SERC a couple of times, in 2014. There are three short walking trails. One takes you over wetlands and along the banks of the Rhodes River. There are signs along the way pointing out notable milestones on the trail, e.g., an old tobacco barn, flora. There is an educational center with fish and turtles and other... More

Looking for a learning experience? The Smithsonian is the place to go. There are indoor and outdoor activities. Children are occupied and learning without realizing it. While this is more hands on than a museum you will still have the same attention to detail. Everyone here is willing to help and answer questions. We signed up for several different programs... We know this site primarily from summer camps, which are fantastic. We have totaled 12 summers between our 3 kids. Great location on a quiet bay off the Chesapeake.

Conservation sciences labs and field work. This just celebrated its 50th year anniversary. It teaches Chesapeake Bay conservation techniques and provides hands on education opportunities for all ages.
