Historic Trail, build by CCC during the depression -- The trailbed itself is a wonder. Depending on you aerobic fitness level, you might have to stop and catch your breath as the steps are not perpendicular, but they rise constantly for nearly a mile. Descend...More

A strenuous hike with incredible trail engineering up through a talus field. Some great views out over the entrance to Somes Sound. The lower half of the descent on Mt Mansell Trail sucks, take the Razorback Trail down which is much more exciting, and only...More

This hike had been on my to-do list for many years, as it has good trailhead parking options, several trail combinations and those glorious Civilian Conservation Corps stone steps (plus a couple of iron rungs/stairs in large boulders.) The 940+ elevation gain is mostly via...More

This is not an easy trail but it is a historic trail built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. There are beautiful views of Long Pond and the wooded portion of the hike is also lovely.

This trail was the end loop of a longer hike. It was definitely a challenge and well worth the time it took us to hike.

This is a wonderful hike, so don't be intimidated by the "Difficult" rating. After all, it is a solid granite stairway to the top of the approx. 1000 ft Mansell Mtn.. We took our two grandchildren (12 and 8) up with us and they handled...More
