B 52 Bomber

Very sacred. Overwhelming seeing pieces of the B 52 Bomber everywhere and that 7 people lost there lives and 2 serviced. So sad.

I was excited to see this and knew it wasn't much of a hike. My husband had been here 20 years before and was appalld by how many pieces of remains had been moved. We also so evidence of a campfire. We were heart broken and upset that the area was not respected. However, the guests that were there while... More

We visit Maine to hit the ATV trails. The B52 site is a great ride to learn a bit of local history. The site is somber and at the same time amazing. It's amazing that this site has been so greatly preserved for such a long period of time. This is our second year visiting the site to pay our... More

We took our kids to show them some local history. The hike was not to hard. Watching the kids somber faces as they saw that this airplane crash was ever so real was priceless. They each took something from our adventure.

The site is amazing and very sad at the same time. We got lost, huge surprise. Tip-don't follow the signs with the airplane and Greenville on them. They bring you back to Greenville. Also, don't take Scammon Rd. Keep going on Lily Bay and take Prong Rd. Our gps took us the long way. Waste of time on dirt roads.... More

My husband and I visited the B-52 bomb site today. The road in and out is dirt and in places, rutted with exposed rocks. Beyond that, the site is an incredible place. The walk in is very easy and can accommodate all ages. There is lots of exposed metal with jagged edges. So you will need to be mindful of... More

This preserved crash site is a must see while in the southern Moosehead lakes region. Site is very easy to get to once you have traveled 9 miles one way on dirt logging roads.. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you take an SUV or pickup, the roads are very rough in places with rocks protruding.

Easy drive on dirt roads to get to the parking area. Short walk in the woods and you'll start seeing debris from the plane, and then you'll be overwhelmed. We went on a cloudy, dreary day which enhanced the setting. The B 52 is a site that can be enjoyed rain or shine.

Looking for a unique, off-the-beaten path locale to visit? This is it. You'll have an adventure getting here and will be reminded of the sacrifice military personnel make to protect our freedoms. Like visiting places most people will never see? This is one of them.

This is a must visit when staying near Moosehead Lake. It is such a unique site and an easy walk (not even a hike) to see the wreckage. They have done very well to preserve the land and pay homage to this tragic event.
