You can park and walk. Or walk to the location. Plenty of benches. The auto ride itself is lovely but recommend parking and walking to the view point mid way. Paved walkways or park grounds to walk on grass. Active with dog walkers and runners.

Portland is small town that is walkable and fun to browse. Lots to do in all sections of the city. WE took the trolley tour and learned so much.

Quickly leave downtown Portland just beyond the visitors' center. Bicycle path is often better than pedestrian, due to pebbly path. Easy to switch safely. Water on right, railroad on left ( a bit junky) but go on and be rewarded with views, rest stops, vegetation...More

We stopped at the East End (Munjoy Hill) for a photo op. There were two food trucks located at the monument, along with any number of families playing at the park, and people reading on benches. A wonderful place to visit, take a photo, get...More

As far as beach's near downtowns of cities, this is a great one. 1 mile walk down a path to city center. Bars, bike rentals, galleries, and general interest sites. Good for a swim and plenty of grassy hillsides to park yourself and enjoy the...More

Growing up in Portland I spent a great deal of time on the Promenade. Amazing history with battlements still intact and the mass grave and the mast of the USS Portland. Featuring almost 70 acres, you can go from pursuing sports and playground activities to...More

We went on Memorial Day weekend, 2017 and the scenery from Eastern Prom was gorgeous, and the trails were relatively easy.

Nicely maintained walking trail along the edge of the water. Lots of different people out and about and some really great views of Casco Bay, Lighthouses, and the city of Portland

Nice walk along the waterfront. The Promenade attracts people (and pets) of all ages, walking, jogging and biking along the water. Nice to see such a diverse group outside enjoying the weather.

Ample car parking, both free and tarriffed also if you visit the railway meuseum you can park there.
Thanks to everyone for posting about the Eastern Promendade -- My questions are : Are there particular areas designated for parking? Does the Promenade have seating/benches along the way or is it best to carry in one's own chair? And last of all -- What are the access points to the Promenade -- seems that there is quite a cluster of homes in the area. Any tips on parking , access or "seating" will be appreciated! Thanks.....

Hi, There is parking inside and along the street. Be sure to pay attention to the street signs though. Benches are located along the top edge by the playground. You can park and just head towards the water or pick up a... More

You don't want a car if you do not leave Portland. As noted above, everything is walkable and parking is a premium. And if you like to walk, there is an excellent route of interconnected trails that have great views. If... More
