Don't overlook Fore Street when visiting Portland. So many places to drink, eat, and shop. Also don't miss the establishments on the side streets. A lot to offer all the way to the promenade.

If loud noise levels are your thing...this is your place. If after an hour of waiting for your meal after being seated first just to be told by the waitress after you ask about your food, "look around, see all these people?..they are waiting too"...More

I took a business group of 9 to Fore Street, recently. I go there 4-5 times per year, and it is always very good, but this group dinner was exceptional. Service was excellent. The menu is long and diverse. Alcohol choices are diverse and reasonable...More

We were so excited to get a reservation at Fore Street. The restaurant interior is amazing and we expected to pay a lot for a first class dinner. We are frequent quality diners having eaten in great restaurants all over the US and other countries....More

By all means, walk along Commercial Street for the touristy stuff. But, go inland one block to Fore street for much more intriguing architecture, shops and not nearly as many tourists.

We enjoy so many things along Fore Street. It has great food (especially Fore St., Central Provisions and Miyake), Gorgeous Gelato, Skordo spices, a terrific salon (Ethan Hunter) and an excellent men's clothing store (Joseph's). Get off of Commercial for a while and go to...More

We had a mixed experience which was a result of a restaurant relying on its past success. While some dishes were great, other dishes and the service were not on par for the high price. Appetizers arrived when we still had half full cocktail glasses...More

Fore Street in Portland, Maine is full of neat little shops and restaurants. Great places to stop in and have a drink. And very aesthetic with the cobblestone streets. Very close to the harbor and Commercial Street. Definitely worth taking a stroll down both streets.

Have to walk down this wobbly cobblestone street of commercial and then several artisan shops. Expensive stores, though not outrageously so. Yes great for gifts. I wouldn't eat on Fore street when a block over is the pier with fantastic, more fun and delicious eateries.

Depending upon where you are coming from, and what you consider "cheap", there would be different options. Basically, Fore Street is a splurge (unless you are uses to NYC, San Francisco, LA, Boston, etc.--and even then, I... More
