I can easily enjoy spending a summer's day walking along Commercial Street. The waterfront and an eclectic assortment of shops and cafes. A fun way to spend 2-3 hours on a free afternoon!

I remember Commercial Street and the Portland waterfront when freight trains frequented the area and there were many fish packing plants. My mom worked in one. One would have to dodge the box cars and drive over railroad tracks. This is all gone now, but the history and wonderful architecture remains. The buildings now contain restaurants and boutiques. The Portland... More

We stayed at a new hotel on the waterfront and enjoyed this area very much. I remember when this was an old working neighborhood and appreciate that several of the sea front businesses, as well as the boats, are still here. It's a great place to walk, window shop, look at the boats and old buildings, and stop for a... More

We travel through Portland frequently on our way up to Friendship. Working our way through the restaurants and pubs as we explore the Maine Beer Trail and then some. Many, many options...all of them wonderful!!! Great shops during the daytime hours and lovely waterfront location.

Portland has much to offer in terms of tourism, visitors, etc. All starts on commercial street. Various selection of shops with their wares, restaurants, local craftsmen, etc. Easy walk to all piers for cruises, etc. Nice place to kill some time before a cruise, after lunch or dinner. The place to start and then work your way up the hill... More

We walked from the cruise pier to downtown Portland via Commercial Street on Wednesday 9/21/16. Interesting art, a few artists selling their wares, many restaurants with lobster rolls and of course the Love Lock Fence. Some very unusual locks - lots of heart shaped one!

This is a nice area to walk around and grab a bite to eat or a drink. Lots of high end clothing and tourist shops if you're into that sort of thing. BUT, do yourself a favor and pick one of the flat rate commercial parking lots, especially if you have out of state plates. I parked at a city... More
