Gritty McDuff’s, Maine’s Original Brew Pub specializes in

Gritty McDuff’s, Maine’s Original Brew Pub specializes in

hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in

a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs

have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-six years of operation.

Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty’s Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff’s Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout,

allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the

senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates.

For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional

specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties

of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

My wife and I have been several times and it is a very favorite for her. The food is always good, the service very good and the atmosphere is pure Portland Old Port- the best of the Old Port.

Great atmosphere, great beers, great experience! Loved our visit with the best seats in the house overlooking the harbour. We stopped in late afternoon to take off the weight (figuratively, unfortunately not literally) after a whole day of walking from West End to Old Port to East End and right through the door of Gritty's! Very nice pub, but the... More

Shrimp Alfredo had way too much black pepper, and some of the linguine had burnt ends (!). One friend had crab cakes that were just average, served with steamed broccoli that was raw. Our other friend had the lobster roll and fries. The roll was a small hot dog roll with minimal lobster for the price. To their credit, they... More

We went to Grittys for some drinks after dinner. The entrance to the bar is on a cobblestoned alleyway, beneath the restaurant located on Fore Street. We had a lot of laughs, some pretty good drinks and not a lot of elbow room. Definitely a fun spot to go out late night and have some fun.

First time in Portland, stopped here for lunch, felt the wonderful vibes instantly. Happy, relaxed, a little alternative. Service was great. Jasmine instantly graced us with a joyous smile and gave great recommendations on their wonderful selection of beers. She also helped us out with food selections and had a great steak and cheese, one of the best I've had... More

Frustrated to have wasted my money here. Seems like a nice enough place to get a pint in the afternoon, friendly staff and decent atmosphere but I made the mistake of going here for a meal. I ordered the fish and chips. If I wanted frozen fish fillets and fries from save-a-lot heated up I would have done it myself... More

If you like noisy, energetic places with so-so food from a bar menu, have at it! Menu choices are limited, but you might enjoy the bar scene.

The traditional pub environment changes based on many factors, including time of day, day, time of year, events, etc. At times the communal tables and pub is filled with energy and conversation which is a huge draw to those looking for this environment. At other times you may find it filled with couples, business people, and happy families enjoying meals.... More

Came into Gritty's looking for a seat with a friend on a Friday night, most of the bars on the Fore St strip were packed. Gritty's beer is great, and was served by a friendly bartender working downstairs. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, but beer was good, and we got a seat on a Friday night. No easily-visible... Gritty's is a Portland classic. Don't miss their great craft beers, their delicious bar food, sandwiches and salads. The Gritty Chips, homemade potato chips served with tarter sauce an s sour cream make a great addition to any pint and their nachos are a full meal in themselves. There is a small outdoor patio on the backside basement area that... More
