We were directed here by a local in Bath and it was worth the drive out. Interesting structure with cool history. It is located on a pretty spot where the Kennebec River dumps into the ocean. Great beach nearby.

We explored the old fort on Labor Day weekend. we really enjoyed exploring the yard, reading the historical information, and marveling at the way the stones were set to support each other. Sitting right on the beach, we were able to take a long walk...More

While this fort has no tour guides it does have an extensive array of explanatory panels that give the history. It is a great example of how they built forts during the Civil War and gives a better understanding of how they worked. I had...More

Can you visit the fort at night? I would like to get some dark sky images while using the fort as a foreground.

By all means. This park is at the end of the road, so park near by, and walk to wherever you feel would be a good night-time shot of the fort. Some fascinating history with this place.
