The trail is moderate. The trail is not very well maintained, which is really sad because the views are spectacular!!! Lots of tree roots, rocks, tall grasses. The logs they have used for the wet areas have decayed, split and have come loose from their...More

We had high hopes for this hike because its rating is so high. Clearly, a ton of work went into creating the path to the cliff because several spots cross through wetlands and needed elevated foot bridges. However, the ocean view at the end was...More

We came to the area specifically to go on this hike. We weren't disappointed. It was worth the two and a half hour drive from home. The weather was great. The views are incredible. We hiked a total of 10 miles with our 12 year...More

Since we have a summer home here, I'm somewhat biased. What you will find are beautiful expansive areas where tourists are not. What you won't find are shopping outlets - actually not much in the way of shopping at all.

I drove and hiked areas on the Bold coast. So glad I did. Beautiful vistas every where and good restaurants here and there as well. I will return.

Great, short hike thru forest to coastal overlook -- only 1.4 miles one way. Great views of the coast, crashing waves, rocks.

Jasper Beach near Machias, ME is one of hidden gems of the area. Not a sand beach, but rounded water-smoothed stones in multiple colors. The view is truly spectacular with trees, islands and a light house off in the far distance while you listen to...More

The views are spectacular (as they are on much of the coast in Washington Cty). I don't think we've ever been the only hikers on the trail.

The Bold Coast trail in Machias may take some work getting to, but is completely worth the effort. The trail is well marked and in great shape. About half the trail goes through fields, marshes, and forests which are pristine and beautiful, while the other...More
