The mill history of Maine spans centuries, family generations. It was lifeblood. To the extreme, it could consume lives, loves. Bates Mill Complex manufactured bedspreads here seemingly forever. Then one day, they stopped. Forever. Robert relates this story, this history, this panorama with an insightful tour of the mill. Feeling one's footsteps on those 19th century oil and sweat soaked... Old, sad, and depressing to think children had to work in the mill for little pay. Or, adults for that matter with no air condition. I suppose they were happy to have a job, but I see it as hell. The lady who runs the place was not pleasant at all. She was very rude, actually.

The displays are very interesting about the old mill town and the culture of the area. The place is very cold (it is an old mill) and some of the rooms are a little bare, but it is worth a visit if you're a history buff.

This little museum is worth your time. The exhibits change regularly and the hosts/hostesses have lots of additional info.

I nice start to what premisses to be a great museum. They will be moving in the next year or 2, to what looks like a great location. Nice to see, read and hear about the community and the people who built it. It's a small museum at this time. About the only thing I didn't like, was the timeline... More

Museum LA Is a great way to learn about the history of Lewiston and the Bates Mills Complex. Housed in one of the former mill buildings the Museum features an interesting collection of memorabilia.
