I stayed at the Stratton Brook Hut overnight with a large group. Worth the hike, even in sub-zero weather. The food is great, the floors are heated, the facility is beautiful. Nice staff. Only complaint: the beds are hard.

That's true- the huts are always open, but now until December 16th they're in self-service season. Reservations are still needed to spend the night, and guests pack-in and pack-out all their own food and gear.

Stratton Brook Hut isn't close to any swimming, but there are some places along the Narrow Gauge Trail to swim in the Carrabassett River. Beer and wine is served at the huts during full-service season.
