This is a wonderful place to walk your dog, ride a bike, jog or rollerblade. It's paved and level, and follows the Kennebec River from Gardiner, north through Farmingdale and Hallowell, to Augusta.

The trail is paved, wide and level and if you peek between the trees you can glimpse the river, but it sure is boring to walk. Might be more fun on a bike.

Fences were removed near the southern entrance. These fences were convenient to lean against or lean your bike against when you're tired. The trailbed is well-maintained as usual.

This trail is well maintained and so beautiful to walk, run or ride bike on. The walk is on the old railroad track bed and is so beautiful along the Kennebec river running through Gardiner, Farmingdale, Hallowell ad Augusta.

Good scenery and paved trail is excellent. Lots of others on bikes, walking, running and walking dogs. Much better than a run along the street.

I was going to a convention at the Civic Center, and brought my MTB to ride the trail on Saturday before returning to Boston. My one suggestion would be to start at the southern end in Gardiner, unless that means extra driving both ways from...More

Paved trail reaching from the Hannaford parking lot in Gardiner to downtown Augusta. Perfect for some activity, goes right by the YMCA and through downtown Hallowell where you can sit and enjoy the waterfront. No major safety concerns, a friendly and safe place to walk/run/bike....More

I "hiked" up the Rail Trail from Gardiner to Hallowell and back the other day. Lovely riverside walk in pristine condition. The Kennebec is one of Maine's most beautiful rivers, and the rail trail takes full advantage of it.
