Maine's oldest lighthouse - and one of the most picturesque and most frequently photographed in the U.S. - has been in operation since 1791. Although it is closed to the public, you can stop by the adjacent museum, enjoy the grounds which include a beach, lawns and picnic areas and view boats entering and leaving the harbor.

Beautiful light house, well taken care of park and grounds. I would recommend visiting early morning when lighting is at its best or maybe sunset especially if you are into taking photographs. Heavily visitied though. We got there early, 8:15am on a chilly week day...More

Breath taking views, incredibly well maintained park. The cliff walk is well paved for a romantic stroll, with lots of high and flat grass area for a romantic picnic in the afternoon. The rock area is easy to climb down to for access to the...More

This is well worth a visit!! Easy drive from Portland. Lighthouse is beautiful, and setting and vistas are spectacular!! Wind off the water is cold, so be prepared....

At least my 2nd trip here in the last 10 years; the grounds have been updated... which is both good and bad because it keeps the reckless off the rocks, but limits photographic access to those of us who are more respectable of the area...More

It’s a picturesque lighthouse on well maintained grounds and in an historical setting. Plaques abound that describe Fort Williams and the history of the lighthouse. A very shy drive from the Inn by the Sea at Crescent Beach.

This site has lots of history and building to tour. It was really cold when we were there and it was soon to close so we didn’t get to see everything but we would go again if we are in the area.

If you love lighthouses add this one to your list. It's in a beautiful setting! Surrounded by history, downtown Portland in the distance, park & Goddard mansion all in one stop!

Visited the iconic lighthouse and took the "classic" photograph of it. It was a warm November afternoon, partly cloudy, with no wind which made the weather perfect. A must see when visiting Portland, ME.

You could bike there, but it really is more enjoyable to walk. It is not large enough to have trails for biking.

I didn't but yes you can. It's a small lighthouse though. I would prefer not to spend some bucks on it as you are already in a cliff to see enough.
