My wife and i were incredibly surprised by our visit to the Houmas House Plantation. The garden on this property was absolutely incredible. We took the hour tour of the house, and the guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the property. I would certainly recommend taking the drive from New Orleans or Baton Rogue to experience the Houmas... More

Upon arrival and purchase of ticket, you are invited to walk throughout the gardens while waiting on the house tour. The grounds are ever so lovely. It doesn't take you long to be entranced with the beauty of nature. So many varieties of flowers to behold. As someone who doesn't have a green thumb, the gardens are inspiring. Before you... More

This was my first visit to a plantation and I had a great time. There is history on every inch of the property and it was idyllic of what I thought a plantation would look like. The tour guide, John Hebert, does a wonderful job explaining the grounds and putting it in a historical context. It is very evident that... More

The tour guide, John Hebert, was a great story teller. He was passionate about the history of the plantation, Baton Rouge and Louisiana. We enjoyed learning about the various families who have owned Houmas House Plantation and how they lived. The grounds are beautiful.

I've visited almost all of the River Road Plantstions, and this was one of my least favorites. The grounds are breathtaking, but there's no information about the 1000 slaves that once loved here. No slave Quarters, and the owner still lives in the house, with a lot of slave art that is nt depicted in the best manner. This prosperity... More

This was just beautiful!!! The gardens were outstanding; so well laid out. The house tour was so interesting, I can't believe Mr. Kelly actually lives in the house and allows tours of his home. There are so many antiques and things he's collected. The history of the house tells a great story about it and how it evolved over the... More

Houmas House is absolutely stunning. Mr. Kelly has filled this historic home with beautiful antiques and treasures of Southern History. The tour is highly recommended. We stayed overnight in the cottages for our anniversary. We started the evening with a tour and then dinner at Latil's. We had the seven course dinner with wine pairing. The food was amazing!
