Art is the Big Idea, and Craft is the Process. Connecting people to art and creative practice. KMAC Museum is a contemporary art museum located in Louisville's historic downtown on Museum Row. The Museum explores the relationship between art and craft by identifying art as big idea and craft as the intersection between process, materials and labor. Our goal is to educate and inspire while promoting a better understanding of art through exhibitions, education and collections.

The newly renovated museum is open and full of eye-candy. The exhibitions included primarily modern art and the folk art was presented with a modern vibe. Take time to read the descriptions of the art works. The amount of things on display is just right--not...More

Easy to find and navigate and FREE. Exhibits were forgettable and that should never be a word used with contemporary art. I can't even explain why. In comparison, 21C (just a few doors away) is much edgier. The gift shop here was lovely and the...More

Really nice art museum located on W. Main, one of the more historical areas of the city. Museum is not large, but the exhibits are well done and the staff is friendly. We really liked the exhibit about threads and textiles but I believe we...More

Today was the first time I have made an effort to see this museum. First, it's in a cool old building on historic West Main Street and second it's free thanks to Dental Dental. It's not a huge place but it is interesting to see...More

Loved that this museum was free and that the docents/staff were so nice. The museum consists of three levels, although I accidentally took the elevator up to the fourth level which is staff offices. The most memorable exhibit that I viewed was related to textiles...More

What fun exhibits we happened upon! One artist displayed environmental art and the other was titled something like movement of mixed mediums. Exhibits and gift shop offered plenty of eye candy and a half hour of entertainment. We'll be adding this as a stop every...More

I have wanted to visit since the recent remodel. They still are not fully finished. I enjoyed the art but I always wish the attendants would be friendlier. There was no eye contact or welcome smile. I almost felt as if I was inconveniencing them...More

Love KMAC and all they are doing as a steward of arts and culture in Louisville. They have tons of events that appeal to a wide variety of audiences, so there is literally something for everyone at some point in the year. Check it out!

Yes, this is a donation admittance and you could forego the expense. So yes, technically, it's free. And the space is new and open and many pieces were well displayed. However, I kept thinking that this is called Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft and...More

Very small art museum on Main St. There are 3 floors, but only a few things to see on each floor. The neatest item was a wooden boat on the 3rd floor. A lot of the art was rather bizarre, including a strange video of...More
