Horse Racing's Living History Museum! At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners everyday. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends cares for more than 135 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A "Rural Hall of Fame", the farm welcomes visitors to get up close and personal with such stars of the turf as Breeders' Cup Champion Gulch, Belmont Stakes winner Sarava, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and many more. Hear their stories, meet them in person...Er..Horse. Our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Tours are daily at 10:00, 1:00 & 3:00 with a reservation.

My husband and I took my niece and in-laws to the walking tour. Lots of great stories and info about the horses from celebrated champions to ones that didn't pan out money-wise😉 Highly recommended.

We were able to get up close to some retired horses. It was a very informative visit. Be prepared to walk....not a long distance but to several different paddocks.

Absolutely loved it, you get to feed and interact with the horses and our guide was excellent. It is laid-back, not thousands of acres of manicured pasture and exquisitely groomed horses but a wonderful friendly spot full of cats and happy horses. If you read...More

Enjoyed it so much I drove the 50 miles back again for a second visit. Bought a few things in the gift shop and bought a share in one of the horses. Glad to help and thanks for such a great experience.

It was fun getting to feed the horses and hear the histories of winnings. The guide had a stick up her butt...that aside, they do fantastic work providing for these "throwaway" thoroughbreds after their racing and/or breeding days are over.

Adults are $10, children ages 6-12 are $5. Children 5 and under are free. I am a long-time volunteer and the proceeds benefit the continued care of the horses. Thank you.

No need to bring treats for the horses, but please leave behind a generous donation.

Old Friends does not offer trail rides, but The Kentucky Horse Park does. Old Friends are retired race horses that enjoy meeting the fans & eating carrots.
