I have read about this park for years and finally was in the area so we went, It is on a maybe 180 foot bluff above the river with a camp ground, picnic shelters, grills, and a restored old house with a museum that was unfortunately not open in the winter. It is a beautiful setting that is worth a... More

We spent over an hour wandering (& dodging lawn mowers) the historic portion of the park. Description plaques about its use as a fort during the WBtS and the Battle of Belmont across the river are located all over. Some of the cannon fr/ the fort are on display as is a portion of the chain used to blockade the... More

One of the nicest campgrounds we've ever been to. The campsites are clean, nicely maintained and well situated to give you a very nice view of the river. There are activities that you can participate in or just lounge around and take it easy. Lots of history here so make sure you do take some time to explore.

I have been here dozens of times. It is always well maintained, nice campground (small, make reservations" It is a great place to bring kid and adults. They have putt-putt golf. A "dairyette" type restaurant and a neat little museum and displays. But the best thing is the fantastic view of the Mississippi river. It is a magnificent view for... More

This is now one of my very favorite state parks. The park is beautiful and we had a very nice campsite overlooking the Mississippi River where we could watch the barges make a sharp turn in the river. The park is clean, with lots of civil war history associated with it. If the museum is open, don't miss it. It's... More

The park is beautiful and very well cared for. Some scenic views overlooking the Mississippi River and lots of local Civil War history make this a great place to visit!

Beautiful park located on a bluff over-looking the Mississippi. Old Civil War cannons, part of the chain that once spanned the Mississippi in an effort to halt the advancing Union army. Also the site of an 1800's earthquake that devastated the area. While you picnic and wander reading the many plaques of historical information, tugs with massive barges chug their... More

I remember coming to the park as a kid and enjoying it then. First trip back in 40+ years. Three generations, picnic, explore. Awesome! Beautiful, well-kept, informational. I wish the museum couldn't have been bigger and better lit, but we all enjoyed it.

I've been to this park many, many times over the years since I was a kid. The park is always very clean and there are many walking trails around the park. There is a putt-putt course but hours are limited. There is also a camp ground with facilities for RV's and tents. There is some really neat history here and... More
