An unexpected diamond in the rough! I was surprised that the small campus wasn't so small. Beautiful grounds in a small, clean, quaint town. It was historical, well maintained & Mayberry-like. I would love for my daughter to visit and consider on her list but it sounds very competitive on many diff credentials, most of which don't fit her lifestyle.... More

Just off interstate and well worth a visit. Plenty of spaces to park for those visiting and you can just stroll around the various building and see college life. Plenty of gift shops to look at. An ideal sunny Sunday afternoon visit.

Founded in 1855 as the first interracial and coeducational college in the South, Berea charges no tuition and admits only academically promising students, primarily from Appalachia, who have limited economic resources. (Taken from B.C. web site). It's a beautiful campus to walk around. The students are friendly in the shops, restaurants, etc. It's a neat place to experience.

Seriously, I want to live here. My other adult friends and I kept trying to think of ways we could wrangle a career at Berea College. The whole town is so quaint and picturesque, and Berea College is the heart of the town. I would be proud for my child to go there. The campus is lovely, the students are... More

We loved walking the campus and visiting the various artisan shops and dining at the local restaurants. The landscaping throughout was wonderful to see. We especially enjoyed the college store where the college students display and sell their arts and crafts. The work is outstanding along with the effort to keep Appalachian arts alive.

No tuition is charged and the students work a variety of crafts that are sold to offset the free tuition. Students are given expert instruction in a number of crafts along with normal libral arts classes. Student population is 1500. Students and famiies are screened and income levels must be low in order to be considered.

Berea is a scenic, small college that prides itself on providing education to those most in need. As one of 7 'work colleges' in the USA, it has a nearly unique method of preparing students for the workplace after graduation. Most students work their way through college, working 10-15 hours/week as part of tuition. A wonderful place that delivers on... More

One of the few work-study colleges in the US, this college exemplifies in my opinion the best ideals in education and work with the community. The best time to visit is when the student-led tours are available, Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 5 pm. This location is well marked from the interstate. Even if this is not on... More

Read of the history of the college. Several old (looking) buildings and some new ones built in same style. There is a 50 minute walking tour that would be better than what we tried with driving as there are not many places to actually stop and get out of a car. Take the tour.

Really nice, green and clean historical campus. It doesn't take long to walk around. if time set up a visit to one of the craft departments.
