This venue has two buildings left over from the original fort. We were a little disappointed and didn’t pay to go in to the museum. It seems very well done and very well maintained. A great diversion from the drive across Kansas. We were on...More

We visited on a cold winter day without any knowledge of the importance of the Fort. It seemed to a mostly outdoor exhibition so we did not stay long.

The museum is very nice and does a great job at bringing to life what it was like in Kansas during the great Western expansion. The fort buildings are well persevered and Leroy was a fantastic guide.

The Fort is interesting because it is unique. The buffalo statue and silhouettes of soldiers and citizens who lived in the fort over the years add to the understanding. I particularly enjoyed hearing the words of some of the citizens voiced aloud at stations along...More

We enjoyed our visit to Fort Hays. Talking to the volunteers and listening to the various recordings throughout the site gave us a greater understanding of the fort's role in the settling of the West. I also liked looking up the soldier's name on the...More
