Hometown America

Downtown Emporia looks much like it did in the 1950's. You need to see this if you have not experienced classic America.

Not a whole lot going on with this tour, but still enjoyable. We were able to learn something about the history of Emporia and how one of its residents were able to impact national politics. Short tour of about an hour and cheap. It was enjoyable time spent while visiting my daughter away at college.

After visiting the Emporia Zoo we ventured over to the William Allen White House for a tour. What an interesting place. We learned so much about William Allen White that we had never known before. We had a wonderful tour guide who really helped us envision how the family lived during a fascinating time in history and how William Allen... More

This is a very important part of Emporia's history. Many famous folks have sought William Allen White's counsel regarding world affairs. "Red Rocks" is steeped in things of historical import. If you visit Emporia, this should be on your list of "things to do".

William Allen White was nationally syndicated columnist. Friends with many presidents who visited him in Emporia. House and grounds available for tour. Best tour stop in Emporia

Famous Kansan William Allen White's Emporia home, also know as Red Rocks, was an interesting an informative guided tour. William Allen White was not only well-known in Kansas, he was nationally and internationally respected. The Red Rocks home entertained five U.S. presidents and other famous Americans. Over 90% of the furnishings in the home are authentic White family possessions. Especially... More

If you are interested in historic personalities, it is worthwhile to visit Red Rocks, to learn more about William Allen White, the outspoken editor of the Emporia Gazette. A visitor center with a film about him is located in an outbuilding. The home is open by guided tour and reflects the designs of the Craftsman era. Allow about 1 to... More

A couple of the second floor rooms are empty while being refurbished, but what made this tour worthwhile were the two docents who are relatively new to the White home but who gave us a wonderful overview of the home, its occupants, including the publisher William Allen White, and his importance as a sort of unofficial advisor to five presidents,...
