When I opened the door to the 1930s prairie home, it was like walking into my grandparents home. So authentic! It alone was worth the visit to recall and see how people here lived 80 years ago. In addition there was the HUGE barn, the little church, still occasionally used, and the furnished sod house. Inside are US military uniforms... More

I have been to many museums and this is in the top 10 for sure! If the main building isn't enough, just go outside and walk to all the original buildings. Come with some time, you'll need more than an hour. My son loves the faux school house and spends most of his time in there. I love going to... More

This one is close to interstate 70 and should not be missed if traveling through Colby. The lady at the front desk was super nice and proud of her museum, as well she should. Outside is the largest barn in Kansas - loved it, a small schoolhouse, a sod house, a church, and a settler's cottage you can roam through... More

We were so impressed with this museum. The outdoor exhibit of buildings was excellent - I had never seen a sod house before, but knew my grandfather lived in one when he was a little boy, so I was very interested to see how they were constructed. I also enjoyed the one room school house and the church. They both... More

Enjoy history in its glory days and the past. Enjoy history being made now. This place was nice to see the history in a place that is long forgotten in its past. enjoy being here and seeing the history of the past present and future the great dust bowl, to modern times.

This place is really two museums. The first is a collection of buildings reflecting Kansas' rural past. The second is a building full of rooms and rooms of items collected during the lifetime of a woman from Colby. The hour or so we spent there was worth it. Could have stayed longer. Staff is very pleasant.

Got into Colby in mid-afternoon after a long drive. Got free passes at hotel to the museum. Very cool Cooper Barn, Sod house, and one room school outside. Museum would good for children as many hands on type activities. For the size of the town, a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Swung by here just to see the reconstructed prairie sod house and wound up really enjoying the inside collection displays as well! The small farmhouse was a cute little piece of history and also enjoyed the farming displays in the Huge barn. Well worth the stop!

What a great place! We needed to pause in our journey and saw this on the map. We were here over an hour, which is a lot for us. Outside there is a mixture of old buildings, schoolrooms, barns, etc, with artifacts that gave a feel for the period. Information boards were informative and easy to read. Inside was a... More

Outside are several buildings, including a sod house where you can pretend to iron, a one room schoolhouse where you can sit on desks and write on the chalkboard or ride the antique merry go round. The church has a bell you can ring. The indoor part is mainly a family's collection of China, dolls, antique toys. But there is... More
