The mounds are not as good as the Mounds National Monument, but there is no steep climb and the view of the Mississippi River and its confluence with the Wisconsin is better. No climb at all. A great lace to visit.

Clean. Maintained. Trails. Free! Came across this park by accident, took a wrong turn, seen the sign, figured what's a couple more miles.

A great state park for all ages and mobility. A short walk from the parking lot is amazing bluff view of the Mississippi river. There are trails for the more mobile site visitors through the forested bluff area.

Pikes Peak State Park offers amazing views of the mighty Mississippi. You can see the confluence of Mississippi River and Wisconsin River as well as the city of Prairie du Chien, WI. The park is named after Lt. Zebulon Pike as the peak in Colorado.

We stopped at the park when it was a cold, rainy day in late November. We were the only people there, but that was OK. The views from the overlooks were spectacular. We plan to return when the weather is better to camp and hike...More

Does anyone have any recommended campsites? We'd like to stay as close to the water as possible - not sure if it's a long walk from the campsites to the river? Tips, anyone?

I see wonderful pictures taken from the observation platform at the top. We cannot hike. Can you get up there by vehicle?

of course you can drive to pikes peak, there is no "hiking" to get to the overlook, more of a 2 minute walk from the parking lot to the overlook.
