The Englert theater has been in Iowa City for decades first as a movie theater then it became a great venue for many other local events hosting a variety of shows and local gatherings, and celebrations such as The Annual Iowa City Human Rights Commission's youth and youth Allies Awards.

This is a wonderful theater. It hosts: musical guests of national renown; university events; lectures; and, more. If you travel to Iowa City you should always check for shows at the theater.

A great historic venue with great shows at reasonable prices. Nicely remodeled and equipped with a good sound system. A Must See!

So this was a BEAUTIFUL place. However, we weren't warned about construction, the box office was only open like 25 minutes before curtain, and the doors only opened like 15 minutes before curtain. So people were still being ushered in at 7:15, so we didn't even get the rambling introduction until 7:22, which is a long time to stare at... More

The Englert Theater is a classic theater from, say, the 20s, with beautiful neon signage. Much like the famous Tower Theater in Sacramento. The seats are comfortable and have been refurbished. Also, because the Englert is in Iowa City, the home of the University of Iowa, it aattracts many wonderfully offbeat productions that otherwise probably would never make the Midwest.... More

I could only give a shining review because I saw Stephen King here and had a blast! The theater seats around 700 people and I hear not a bad seat. We were in the fourth row and could not see people in balcony at all so not sure on the view up there. Everyone that worked there was really nice.... More

We drove to Iowa City to see Stephen King at the Englert Theater. We stood in line outside for about an hour and a half in 100 degree heat before the doors opened. The ushers and security walked up and down the line handing out free bottles of water and making sure everyone had tickets in the correct form. When... More

Historic theater in Iowa city. It has been carefully restored to its mid 20th century state and hosts national and local acts. A dedicated staff and volunteers strongly promote local arts, local artists, and encourage kids to be involved in the arts. We've seen rock, folk, dance, classical, spoken word, movies, and poetry there. The free movie matinees (like the... More

Caught a comedy show here during the Mission Creek Festival. I loved the theater—from the old marquee sign, to the doorman opening the door with a warm welcome, the seating, lighting and the option to buy drinks. Would love to visit again!

My wife and I have attended a wide range of musical performances here. The Englert's decor and ambiance are elegant, and the venue is a perfect medium size for viewing both large and small groups. Management has done a nice job of booking top-drawer musicians. The acoustics are not always perfect, but this theater almost always delivers a fine evening.
