Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Clara Boardwalk is a brilliant amenity, such a beautiful and tranquil place to stroll. As the welcome board by the car park says, it is designed for those who want to walk slowly and immerse themselves in the bog flora and fauna, as well as the scenery.
As some reviewers correctly say, it's very short at only 1km but do what I did - a few laps!
The display boards placed at intervals tell you about the bog, its plants, insect and bird life and attempts at conservation.
There is bench at the highest point, furthest from the road where you can sit and contemplate. But the boardwalk is almost flat with only occasional very gentle gradients. It's wheelchair accessible and easy for those with pushchairs. A wire mesh makes it better to grip and its plenty wide enough for two to pass abreast.
There's a small car park at either side of the road at the main entrance. Completely free to visit.
Wonderful peace and quiet, good for the soul.

Before you walk the bog walkway, first go the the Visitor Center, a mile or so away. Plan to see the center (don't skip the movie), talk to the staff, maybe have lunch in town, and then go out to the bog. The bog has a large raised walkway loop that you can wander around and see the various plants (and animals if you're lucky). This is something you can't really see anywhere else. Museums and bars are great, but take the opportunity to see something unique. Do the bog.

Clara Bog is one of the best remaining examples of a raised bog in Europe, and the boardwalk is a 1km looped walk on Clara Bog. The walk itself is well sign-posted, with various information points along the way explaining the flora/fauna relative to the area. If you just want a stroll and a bit of a read it is perfect - a lovely walk, so peaceful, quiet and very picturesque on a sunny summer's day, enabling you to soak up the atmosphere of an exceptional raised bog in the heart of Ireland. There is an area to park your car or bike, and the walk itself is wheelchair accessible.
If you're more in to the history side of things, or learning about the bog I would recommend visiting the Clara Bog Visitor Centre first (they are not beside each other, but only a 5 minute drive away). Admission to both Clara Bog Visitor Centre and the Boardwalk are free to all. The visitor centre is extremely informative, explaining about the wild life and the history of the bogs. The visitor centre is located beside the local library so there is the availability of a car park and it is also wheelchair accessible.
So, whether you're interested in the history of bogs or not, it is still well worth a visit. An excellent facility! A very welcoming environment, I would definitely recommend!

The boardwalk is probably only 1km long and does a loop out and over the bog and back. Parking available on the road at the entrance. Wasn’t busy (but dog foul in two places on this thin boardwalk, not blaming the dogs but come on people, pick it up). Beautiful views though you’d want the weather for it as zero shelter. Nice thing to do if in the area, could do one lap in 10-15 minutes.

We enjoyed touring the boardwalk around the bog, a great feat of workmanship in itself, and the nearby visitor centre in Clara town was very well presented (and free!). We chatted with a very knowledgeable guide in the visitor centre, and learned a great deal about bogs and peat as a fuel. This is well worth the short jaunt off the motorway.

A short length of boardwalk was built over part of the boglands here so you can experience it firsthand without getting into the muck.

The boardwalk is amazing.
How lucky are the licals to live near such a fantastic amenity.
The boardwalk cuts right across old bog with beautiful flora and fauna like you have not seen before. We plan to come back with the full family and bring a picnic and hire bikes.
Can't wait to get back.
