Always a good time. Great sights and plenty of room. Never had any issues other than take something to sit on in the toilets. Plenty of trails and other things to keep kids busy. Just don't take the wee ones on the backbone trail itself, kids should be watched there.

A perfect day in October for a hike. We hiked the "Backbone Trail" Fantastic scenery. Did a little fishing. Checked out the Auditorium " and had a picnic lunch. I would recommend that you print a map from their website. There are several entrances. We went through the North park area. Trails we were on ie: Backbone and Owl were... More

My wife and I were driving back from Galena, Illinois to Omaha last Sunday, and thought we'd take a small detour and check out the park. It was so worth it! The layout was a little confusing, with multiple entrances, but we lucked out when we drove into the east entrance and found the Backbone Trail. It was a 1.5... More

We (me, my wife and my dog) went on a hike there this past weekend. It is definitely a beautiful park with a lot of opportunities for recreation. Though the water quality is unacceptably bad so don't swim unless you can bath right afterwards. Other than that, it's a beautiful place with very nice trails.

Our family of 8 came here for a day trip in mid-July on a Thursday with rain in the forecast. There were very few people on the trails and at the attractions. Which was great for us. The kids range in age from 5 to 19. I enjoy hiking- tennis shoe, not boot. And I thought we would all enjoy... More

We celebrated my birthday here and we really had fun.. We were at the beach area and the kids were also having fun thats because the playground near the bench and the beach is just mins away.. We did ride a boat and 30 mins = $10 and an hour = $15..

We went here to hike and there are some basic, easy trails with good scenery. You could also mountain bike on most, if not all, of the trails. The bathrooms very primitive and don't smell great, but at least they have facilities and all of them we stopped at had antibacterial sanitizer dispensers in lieu of running water to wash... More

This state park is a must see. Even with two children we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We camped in a tent at the South Lake Campground. The scenery was beautiful. Trails were well maintained. We hiked at several different locations throughout this state park. Many playgrounds so the kids had a blast. I could not have asked for a better... More

This is a very basic park - lots of good trails and some parking and picnic areas, but pretty primitively bathroom facilities along the way. The views along the trails and by the creek are worth the visit, and it's a great place to relax and enjoy nature. There's a small museum but it's not open all the time and... More

We could have seen and done more had we known we would be stopping. There are multiple entrances to the park, know where you want to go and plan what you want to do/see as you will likely lose cell service. We entered in the north. The park is beautiful with large rock formations and crystal clear streams. My son... More
