This is a favorite among Des Moines locals. It's perfect. You can get greasy bar food or fish tacos. The food is awesome, and the atmosphere is super fun! You will not want to miss out on this fun experience. Love it!

A friend recommended we stop in and see the place. Very interesting. Definitely a dive with accompanying greasy food. It helps El Bait Bar is located next door - makes for a fun evening. Worthy of a quick stop.

Seven of us went here for beers. For three, it was a first visit. ( I had been here a while back.) There is an unusually large selection of beers. It is very difficult to go over the menu of beers even within the categories listed on the top of the several pages. I prefer lesser hop pilsners. There were... More

While enjoying a drink, my friend and I indulged in a half order of El Bait Shop nachos and fried pickles. High Life Lounge offers a unique and cozy spot to unwind. I love that I can order from both the high life lounge and El Bait Shop menus. The nachos are definitely my go to food, loaded and delicious.

It's a terrific throwback to a much simpler time when your beer choices were limited to the likes of Miller High Life, Pabst, Olympia, Hamms, etc. Nothing wrong with drinking the classics every once in awhile. This place is a time warp from the wood panel walls, to the vintage beers signs, down to the Frogger arcade game tucked in... More

Great prices and brands of beer not available everywhere. My favorite is PBR on tap but the selection is very extensive. The food is good old fashioned with great flavor in the hamburgers and fries. This menu didn't spare calories, but was good and reasonably priced.

I love it when something lives up to the hype. After seeing this on Man Vs Food, I wanted to go here if I was ever in Iowa. So I was in Cedar Rapids, and took a day trip to see the Iowa Cubs. Well this place is even better in person. The food was great and all of the... More

My girlfriends and I stop in from time to time to grab a beer and some cheap food. Great comfort food menu all around. Chicken is fantastic, meatloaf is tasty and who doesn't like bacon wrapped smokies and tator tots?! It is quieter than the attached El' Bait Shop so visiting is easier. Fun place to visit.
