My wife and I took a day trip to see the Art Center because of a reciprocal pass we had from the Figge in Davenport, Iowa. We got there to find out that admission was free every day because of generous sponsors. The buildings were built in three phases which is part of draw of the center. The way the... More

We live in Des Moines and try to make frequent trips to the DM Art Center. New exhibits and permanent ones always enlightening. Outside garden area is beautiful. Restaurant is great for a lunch with a friend. Gift shop has much variety. Always feel great after visiting.

You can see paintings by Bacon, Hopper, Wood, Picasso, Braque, Warhol and quite a few others. The venue is not excessively crowded. It has a nice collection of modern art. And it is free.

The Des Moines Art Center is a gem many people forget about. We are so fortunate to have the high level of tremendous art right on Grand avenue. You must visit. Not open on Mondays - there is a restaurant too. Oh and it's free.

We've made many enjoyable visits to this museum over the years. No admission or parking charges, and you can easily give a free will donation to help support. Check the website. This museum gets many excellent traveling exhibits. We've seen "American Gothic"and Jackson Pollock's "Mural" there, as well as other great exhibits.

What a gem. What a wonderful way to walk off a meal, or spend an afternoon! The museum is free. FREE! And so large that you can get overwhelmed if you want to see everything on one visit. There are several exhibits, and lots of stairs and hallways. And a restaurant. Not just a cafe, but fresh food served at... More

Went to see Vivian Maier photo show. Small but well curated. Interesting permanent exhibit. Easy parking. GREAT restaurant as part of museum. Good food, sunny environment and very friendly staff. Free admission to museum.

I have traveled to many cities and visited many an art museum, and I can tell you the Des Moines Art Center surpasses most. The building, which is a work of art in itself, houses a permanent collection of pieces by an astonishingly diverse and renowned number of artists. Rotating exhibits are as unexpected as they are thought-provoking. I am... More

Wonderful photography exhibit of Vivian Maier: Through a Critical Lens. Worth the trip to see. Was surprised at no admission fee. Also must check out the gift shop. Even if you just buy a Carmel. They are delicious .

Have good collection of arts and the building itself is very large and has multiple floors. Adjacent to museum there is a rose garden too and few trails.
