this is a great trail for a run, walk or ride to enjoy the great surrounding. Spent a few hours here last weekend with the family

This would be an even better place with a white water park, and access to the river, kept pretty clean, and pretty well lit.

On our recent visit to Des Moines this proved to be one of our favourite things to do. As previous comments mention it is very pretty and well maintained, as is all Des Moines. Would love to visit again to see the lower pathway which was not visible during our stay.

I like walking this in the spring/summer/fall because it's a touch of green and "fresh" air in the city. the river is pretty and when the water is low enough you can walk along the river down below on the old cement path which is just fun.

Walk by the recently remodeled Botanical Center and The Robert D. Ray Asian Garden, go over the river on the Women of Achievement Bridge, and just wander around downtown. Talk a short stroll or longer walk. Nicely maintained.

Wide paved paths, many bridges to cross back and forth if you wish. The trail passes the Robert D Ray Asian garden and can take you to the Des Moines Botanical Garden. Easy access to Court Avenue and the endless supply of restaurants and taverns there. A great place to people watch or sit and watch the river and the... More

My family was in Des Moines to eat at Zombie Burgers (another awesome place!) and wanting to walk off the meal, we took in the River Trail. This is a beautiful walk, next to the river, over the river and dam, through a pagoda and so much more! We are glad we explored and would walk it again!

The Des Moines River Trail is part of the Iowa trail network, and somewhat follows the south side of the river. Near downtown, you stay within sight of the river and travel along one of the main routes east-west in Des Moines. It includes an emergency bike repair stand just across bridge from the stadium. Check it out if you're... More

We walked along the Des Moines river taking in the views of the rivers dams from the viewing areas on the way then when the Des Moines river splits into two you follow the other river called the Racoon river back up the same direction for about a two mile up a proper walkway and cycle track. This leading to... More
