Really cool place as far as capitols, artwork, architecture and grand stairways go. On Iowa Caucus night, they film from the Law Library within the capitol - pretty cool.

Iowa has a fantastic capitol building. If you get the chance, you can go right in, after security, from the left side of the building and do your own self-guided walking tour. The architecture is splendid.

The state capital takes 1/2 hr to 2 hrs depending on how much you read and enjoy the displays. The natural museum in the building next to it takes about equal amount of time. We went with a teenager who was not into it... More

Yes there are steps but it does have handicapped accessibity. It is a bit difficult to get to some places easily. You are unable to go up to the top of the dome as it's 130 steps and no elevator. Saturday is open, but only... More
