Very Interesting Anytime but go in Spring/Summer and see the beautiful grounds!!!

This is really a hidden Gem, the staff was extremely informative and the garden and grounds are just gorgeus! If you can catch a tour then do so.

Just visited Salisbury House during the Holly & Ivy Christmas tour, and the mansion was decked out for Christmas!. This historic home in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa is a gem tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. The fascinating history and drama of the Weeks family and their climb to wealth is displayed in the astounding collection of art,... More

What a surprise. Not what I was expecting to see in Iowa. So glad it has been maintained. Beautifully decorated for the holidays. The guides throughout the house were very knowledgeable. It was $20 for the tour but included the Wallace House And Drake Alumni House. All decorated for the Holidays. Wonderful way to spend a Sunday.

We attended a wedding at the Salisbury House. The property is very interesting and beautiful. Many rooms to socialize and entertain guests in a quaint, personal setting. Truly a romantic and memorable experience as a wedding guest

I've been to the Salisbury House for different events and it provides a very satisfactory location. Weddings, car shows, etc. and just touring the facility itself is enjoyable at the Salisbury House. If you have any appreciation for architecture and history, you'll enjoy visiting this place.

We stopped on a whim, looking for something to do before our flight left in the early evening. I'm SO glad we stopped in to see everything! Our guide, Julie, was phenomenal and knew every detail there was to know about the house and the family. We truly enjoyed her as a tour guide! The house and grounds are beautiful,... More

My husband and I had an hour to kill and thought we'd check this home out. The cost for a self guided tour is $8.00, which is very reasonable. The place is quite large and we navigated the place easily with the help of a brochure we picked up upon entering. If you take the guided tour, you have access... More

Thirty years ago, the Iowa State Educators Association had their headquarters here. That couldn't have been efficient. It certainly was costly. Around 1987, they felt they had to sell their modernist prize, Joseph Stella's "Tree of My Life," which I had enjoyed while it was hanging in the Des Moines Art Center. Sadly, it didn't go to DMAC, but the... More

It is difficult to believe that this Castle like Museum, once used to be a single family home, yet retains a homelike quality that is warm and welcoming. This house has been built and kept with incredible detail, it is an absolute Masterpiece. Take the tour!! The docent's here will multiply your experience!

Wander through the salons of this imitation Gothic stone mansion, built by the inventor of face powder back in the 1920s. Heavy curtains, gigantic furniture, a dark high-ceilinged library, long hallways, suits of armor. Set in gracious gardens that are probably glorious in spring. Apparently used for weddings and parties. Stirs the imagination. the upstairs bedrooms contain displays and photos... More
