If you get the chance this site is a place to pay your respects to Rock n' Roll. It really is out in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa. It is, however, very easy to find. I used google maps and found it easily. Park near the Buddy Holly glasses and it's about a 10 minute walk to the... More

For my husband to see the spot of the crash when he'd been allowed to attend the Holly, Valens, and Richardson concert on a school night decades ago, it was poignant and for me too. When you go, if it's been raining, try walking down the center with sensible (!) shoes because Iowa's rich soil will suck your shoes off... More

Good place to visit weather permitting. Go before corn gets too tall or after it is picked. There were water areas on part of the path due to rain and so we had to walk amongst the corn rows. If you have hard time walking, you might not want to go.

This location is readily findable with the last mile or so on gravel. There is ample parking along side the road - I doubt there ever a huge number of people there at the same time - and the path going to the crash site itself has thoughtfully been aided by a grass pathway. The site itself is perhaps 3/8... More

I loved seeing this famous site. I have always been fascinated by the whole Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper tragedy so this was very exciting, yet sad, to see. It is only a small , rather quaint tribute to the three music stars and pilot who died here, but it is enough to feel humbled by. I loved... More

My name is Ken Paquette, a 50s fan from Wisconsin. I went to the tribute show for the first time in 1987. I wanted to see the crash site, but nobody seemed to know where it was Got lucky and talked to a farmer that was working the land at that time. He took us right to the spot.I was... More

We stopped to see this site. Takes about a 1/2 mile walk on edge of corn field. Worth the walk if you can make the distance and navigate some wet spots or rough path walking. Not very difficult.

We were coming back from Wisconsin and decided to stop at the crash site. Easy to find. Was surprised the day we stopped there were maybe 6 cars and around 8 people coming or going from the crash site. It is maybe a quarter of a mile very easy walk to get to the site. Nice plaque and some items... More

The farmer that owns the property mows a path so you can walk back to the site. There is a small jar there where you can leave a dollar or two to help offset his costs for mowing, and up keep. The memorial was cool to see.

I had seen pictures of this memorial and we decided to find our way out there. Very solemn and moving. It is about a 1/2 mile hike from the road, but the owner of the land has left a decent path to get to the site. Highly recommend.
