A stately Victorian mansion with original furnishings and stunning woodwork...

A stately Victorian mansion with original furnishings and stunning woodwork is the highlight of this museum complex, which also includes a children's museum, a gallery of Notre Dame history and an exhibit that chronicles the history of the St. Joseph River Valley. Our museum is also physically connected to the Studebaker National Museum. You can now visit two museums in one place!

Originally visited to tour the Studebaker museum which is attached to the history museum. For the added couple dollars it is well worth adding it on if you have the time. The main museum gives a detailed history of the local area. A bunch of cool exhibits featuring memorabilia and items of the area. Plus a lot of info on... More

I could not have been more pleased with tour of the Oliver home and the Downton Abbey Exhibit. The home was breathtaking and we were fortunate to see the home decorated for Christmas. Just Gorgeous!! The Exhibit (which was the purpose of the trip) did not disappoint although it did remind me how much I miss my all-time favorite show.... More

The History Museum is very cool. All interesting pieces of life. The Studebaker area was also much more than just the cars. The Oliver Mansion is a must see. Money very well spent for a cold winters day entertainment. Nice day trip with the family.

Very clean and well organized Museum! We also enjoyed the Dressing Downton exhibit from Downton Abbey! The museum was well kept and easy to choose what you wanted to see and what you didn't!

Went to see the Downtown Abbey display, but because the museum was not busy decided to pay the difference to see the whole museum. We were very surprised to see how many other items were displayed. We started with a short film that told about the family. After the film, we were told that the home of the Studebaker family... More

The History Museum hosted the "Dressing Downton" wardrobe; Studebaker car museum and Oliver Mansion for the Campus price/senior discount/plus AAA discount. The Downton costumes were well presented, well curated, and it was ideal to be able to get up close to the wonderful creations. Brought back lovely memories of watching the series. The tour of the Oliver Mansion was very... More

I purchased a ticket for the 'Dressing Downton' exhibit and really didn't know much about this museum campus. While I genuinely enjoyed that exhibit, I was really happy with other things the museum had to offer, as well. I had no idea that South Bend had had one of the All American Girls Baseball League franchises! And the tour of... More

Friend of mine ran across this exhibit, so we met in S. Bend (me from Central IN and she from Grand Rapids, MI). Really lovely vignettes with clothes and some props from the show. Plaques provide additional details on the items. They are just breathtakingly exquisite and quite detailed. Took us a little over an hour. Ticket includes some other... More

We toured this mansion yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. This is a bigger mansion than most I have visited and it is a living museum - just like the Oliver family left it. It is very ornate with so many period pieces. However, it is homey and you can imagine a family living there. It takes between 1.5-2 hours to... More

We came to the History Museum for the Dressing Downton exhibit. You should get your tickets ahead of time, but they do have a limited number of walk-in tickets available. The Downton exhibit covers the first four seasons and does an excellent description of what was happening at the time of the Titanic sinking to the flapper era. It's neat... More
